When infection is allowed to take root from untreated cavities and plaque, a root canal may be necessary. The procedure cleans out the infected pulp of a tooth’s root to restore it back to health.
What Happens at an Appointment
The gums surrounding the infected tooth will be numbed with a local anesthetic. The dentist cleans out the root with a specialized tool and fills the tooth. A crown may be needed to cover the tooth.
